When Mama puts Little Cub to bed, the inquisitive bear isn’t ready to sleep. She asks, “Mama, where did I come from?” Mama explains that she came from God. Little Cub continues to pepper Mama with questions about her origin, and to each one Mama answers, “God gave us you.” In an age-sensitive manner, Little Cub learns about Mama’s pregnancy, the preparations in their home for her arrival, her birth, and the happy family’s homecoming.
When Little Cub finally closes her eyes and says her prayers, she feels happy and safe “because God had given her—little her—to Mama and Papa, and they wouldn’t trade her for the world. ‘Because God gave us you,’ Mama had said. ‘Because God gave us you.’”
